The FACT is Tennessee ALREADY owns the land.
NISSAN owes Tennessee municipalities OVER 3,950,000,000 in IDB debt.
Also another 2 Billion in IDB bond guarantee as collateral for the
1.4 Billion Battery Plant. I hear NISSAN can't afford to pay back that. NOW the Governor is "Pretending" that NISSAN is giving them land? Kindof like the "faux" job creation?
I bet the Tennessean gives this story below a puff piece.
Maybe instead of giving land NISSAN should "payback" it's debt?
Gov. Bill Haslam announced the initiative during his State of the State address Monday night. The Tennessee Technology Center at Murfreesboro, which is overseen by the Tennessee Board of Regents, would operate the center, offering an array of courses, with an emphasis on high-tech automotive manufacturing. That will allow it to free up space at its Old Fort Parkway location for health-care education, an area seeing increased demand to serve aging baby boomers.
Nissan will provide land near its Smyrna plant for the 154,000-square-foot center and kick in financially for the project. In addition it will pay rent on 79,000 square feet for its own new training facility that will replace its 30-year-old center.
The ripple effect of this training center could be huge for Middle Tennessee. Not only will it serve a 10-county area around Rutherford, it could become an economic engine for the region.
